  1. What is the history behind IAI?

    The International Association of Interviewers was created in 2012 to fill a unique niche for the interview and interrogation community which, until now, lacked a professional organization to support and represent its distinct needs.

    The creators of the CFI designation recognized the need for ongoing education and collaboration among individuals whose job responsibilities include interviewing, interrogation and investigations.

  2. Why was IAI Created?

    International Association of Interviewers (IAI) was created to leverage the body of knowledge of the Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI) program with a broader group of individuals that share an interest in interviewing in both the Private and Public Sectors.

    IAI was created to become a knowledge and skills development resource for its members in law enforcement, loss prevention, risk management, audit, government agencies, insurance companies, banking, military, students and human resources.

  4. Where can I join IAI?

  5. Are there any requirements to join IAI?

    You must be in a field in which you perform interviews, investigations, or interrogations. These fields can range from law enforcement, loss prevention, risk management, audit, government agencies, insurance companies, banking, military, students and human resources.
  6. Are there yearly renewal fees?

    There are annual renewal fees that are due on the anniversary of the start date of your IAI membership. You will receive a renewal reminder prior to your anniversary date.

    All renewals are due on your one year anniversary month, for example if your membership was started in December 2013 your annual dues are to be paid by December 2014. Any renewals received after the renewal date could incur penalties. All renewals must be submitted with proper payment and sufficient renewal forms. If an incomplete renewal notice is submitted the individual is notified via e-mail or telephone. Incomplete renewals will not be processed.

    Renewal fees:

    • IAI Member – $75 annually
    • Associate Member – $25
    • CFI Legacy – N/A (Only recertification costs which $150 every three years)
    • CFI – $150 recertification fee due every three years along with 24 CEUs
    • If you are a CFI and IAI member – An annual fee of $75 along with $150 every three years with 24 CEUs
  7. Are there recertification fees for IAI?

    No, there are only recertification fees for Active CFI and CFI Legacy members, which is $150 every three years. IAI members do not need to obtain Continuing Education Units, but it is recommended to attend educational events throughout the year.

    There are a number of different committees that a member can become involved with including:

  9. Are there any chapters for IAI?

    There is currently a Northeast and West Coast chapter for IAI members. Once you join, you can find more information on these chapters here.
  10. Does renewing my IAI membership renew my CFI certification?

    No. IAI annual membership and CFI certification are two separate entities. IAI membership is due on an annual basis to continue receiving IAI member benefits, whereas CFI re-certification is due every three years. CFI recertification is to maintain your CFI designation as an elite interviewer.
  11. Does IAI keep record of my CFI renewal credits?

    No. The IAI Certification Department is not responsible for keeping track of credits earned during a renewal cycle. Please keep all documentation until your recertification has been renewed.
  12. When do I receive my new IAI member certificate?

    Please allow 30 days for processing of all IAI membership renewals.
  13. How do I renew my IAI membership online?

    Log in to the website and click update profile, you will then be able to update your record along with payment for your renewal.
  14. What if my IAI membership expires? Can I reinstate?

    If your IAI membership has expired, please contact Jen Ziegler to reinstate your membership or call 630-515-3579.
  15. What forms of payment are accepted?

    We accept Visa, MasterCard, or American Express for credit card payments. We also accept company checks and personal checks.
  16. What is the duration of the IAI membership?

    IAI Membership is yearly, annual member dues must be paid for prior to or on your annual anniversary renewal date. If you are not reinstating your membership, please let Jen Ziegler know 30 days prior to your annual renewal date.
  17. If I am currently a CFI and would like to join IAI, would I have to pay for both CFI and IAI yearly dues?

    Yes. Once you are a CFI and an IAI member you have to pay the CFI recertification cost and IAI annual dues.
  18. What’s the duration of the CFI certification?

    The duration of the CFI certification is three years. You will need to obtain 24 continuing educations credits every three years and pay a fee of $150 for the certification.

    If you are an IAI member and a CFI (after June 2012) you will need to pay the annual renewal cost of $75 for your IAI membership and then $150 every three years for your CFI recertification. NOTE: these will be different months.

  19. How Many Credits do I need to maintain my CFI?

    To maintain your CFI designation you need to obtain 24 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) within the three year period.
  20. What counts towards credits for re-certification for my CFI?

    CEUs can be obtained from on-the-job training, job meetings, WZ workshops, re-taking and passing the CFI exam, college courses, completion of the study materials for the LPC and CFE exam, ACFE courses, conferences and in-house training.
