Jay Ganal, CFI

Why did you become a Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI)?

I wanted to become a CFI as a point of pride for my interview skills as well as to keep current with trends.

What was the most difficult challenge you came across while preparing for the CFI exam?

Because I went about the study the long way I completed the recommended reading list in addition to completing the on-line prep program. Not being an avid reader, I felt my path was very tedious but I wanted to digest as much of the information as I could to help with the theory behind the exam questions and not just a simple recall of information.

Do you use social media? If so, which ones?

I use LinkedIn. I was a Facebooker, but no longer have an active account as I didn’t feel it suited my needs.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about sport shooting. I have recently taken a part-time position at a new gun shop and range to learn about different firearms and help improve my skill.

Who do you most admire? Who is your favorite person? Why?

I most admire my wife. With some recent personal situations that have hit our family, she has taken over and helped support us through a trying time. Her dedication and relentless approach has helped me rephrase the old saying that “behind every successful man is an even more successful woman.” She has never been behind me, but rather, has stood with me, and lately she has been in front pulling and encouraging me along the way.  Naturally I’d say she would be my favorite person, but my son Gavin takes this one because he’s like my wife in 4-year old form!

If you could trade places for a day with anyone, who would it be?

Jimmy Fallon. With the way the world is at times these days I would feel it a success to be able to help people forget about all of the real world issues for an hour and help them crack a smile or laugh. Although it’s an hour of the day the masses that might rely on him to give them a break – this would be a job I’d like to have.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you bring?

Life straw water filter, magnifying glass, and a picture of my son.

What’s your favorite movie?

Being a self-proclaimed king of the one-liners, I have to say I’ve gotten much of my repertoire from Anchorman. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it but I’m sure I could turn it into a rationalization.
